Tour Highlights

✓ Deosai National Park

One of the world's highest plateaus at over 4,000m. Open only June through mid-October before snow closes the road.

✓ Upper Kachura Lake

A calm alpine lake about 30 minutes from Skardu city, good for a short boat ride and quiet photography.

✓ Katpana Cold Desert

High-altitude sand dunes just minutes from Skardu Airport — a genuinely unusual stop most first-timers don't expect.

✓ Shigar Valley & Fort

Balti architecture and orchards about 30km from Skardu, on the road toward the Karakoram's highest peaks.

✓ Private 4x4 & Local Driver

The tracks past Skardu need a 4x4. Yours comes with an experienced local driver for the whole trip, not a rental you navigate yourself.

✓ Honest Flight & Road Planning

Skardu flights are weather-dependent. We plan a buffer day around your dates instead of pretending delays don't happen.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Five days, four nights, based from Skardu the whole way — no overnight camping unless you specifically request it.

Your guide meets you at Skardu Airport or the road-transfer point and takes you to your hotel. If time and light allow, a short stop at Katpana Cold Desert — a few minutes from the airport — starts the trip with one of Skardu's more unusual landscapes. Evening briefing on the days ahead.

Early departure by 4x4 via Sadpara toward the Deosai plateau. The entrance at Bara Pani is roughly 30–35km from Skardu, and the unpaved track typically takes 1.5–3 hours each way depending on road conditions — your guide builds in the extra time rather than promising a fixed hour. A full day on the plains, with a picnic lunch and time at Sheosar Lake, weather and road conditions permitting. Return to Skardu by evening.

A shorter day. Drive about 30 minutes to Upper Kachura Lake for a lakeside walk and, if you'd like, a short boat ride. Afternoon in Skardu city — the bazaar and the Skardu Fort viewpoint over the Indus.

About an hour's drive to Shigar Valley. Visit Shigar Fort, walk through the orchards, and stop at Blind Lake on the way back. Return to Skardu for your last night.

Free morning if your flight or road departure allows. Transfer to Skardu Airport or your onward road-transfer point. Because Skardu flights are weather-dependent, ask your guide about buffer options if your schedule is tight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the Skardu and Deosai Adventure Package?

Private 4x4 transport, a local guide, 4 nights in a 3-star Skardu hotel (twin-sharing), daily breakfast, and a packed lunch on the Deosai day. Lunch and dinner on the other days are on you, so you can choose where to eat in Skardu.

How do we get from Skardu to Deosai National Park?

By 4x4 jeep only — the road isn't passable in a standard car. The entrance at Bara Pani is roughly 30–35km from Skardu, and the drive typically takes 1.5 to 3 hours depending on road conditions and stops.

Will Deosai be open during my travel dates?

Deosai is generally accessible from June through mid-October and is closed by snow the rest of the year. If you're traveling in the shoulder months, ask us to confirm current road status before you book.

Do foreign travelers need a special permit for this itinerary?

Skardu, Shigar, and Deosai currently require only a passport check, not a separate NOC. Permit rules in Gilgit-Baltistan have changed before and can change again, so confirm your specific nationality's requirements with us before travel rather than relying on this page alone.

What happens if my flight to Skardu is delayed or cancelled?

Skardu flights are weather-dependent, and cancellations happen, especially in spring and autumn. We recommend building a buffer day at each end of your trip and will help you adjust the itinerary if a delay pushes into it.

Is this trip suitable for children or first-time high-altitude travelers?

There's no technical trekking, but Deosai sits over 4,000m and some travelers feel the altitude. If you're bringing young children or anyone with a heart or lung condition, tell us in advance so we can pace the Deosai day accordingly.

What's the best time of year to do this tour?

June through September, while Deosai's plateau road is clear of snow and the plains are green. July and August are the most popular and most crowded; June and September are quieter with a similar experience.

What should I pack for Deosai and Skardu?

Warm layers even in summer — Deosai nights and mornings are cold at altitude. Bring sun protection, sturdy closed shoes for uneven ground, and a light rain layer, since weather on the plateau can shift quickly.

Do I need to pay a deposit to book this tour?

Yes. A deposit confirms your dates once your itinerary is set, with the balance due when you arrive in Skardu. [PH_DEPOSIT_PERCENTAGE — most Skardu-area operators, including some of our own hotel partners, ask for 30–50% upfront; confirm ND's exact figure before this goes live]. Ask on WhatsApp for the current terms before sending any payment.

Traveling solo — do I pay more?

The $650 rate is quoted twin-sharing. Traveling alone means a single-supplement on the hotel nights, since you're covering a room built for two. [PH_SINGLE_SUPPLEMENT_AMOUNT]. Tell us it's a solo trip when you message and we'll quote it exactly.
