7-Day Skardu Tour by Road

1 Day

: 7 days (8-day extended option) | Islamabad–Islamabad | Jun–Oct best (runs year-round without Deosai) | Easy | Car/coaster + jeep | Private or group

This is the classic way to see Skardu: two days up the Karakoram Highway, with the Indus beside you most of the way, then three full days based in Skardu. The plan covers the Kachura lakes, Shigar Fort, the Cold Desert, Basho Valley and, in season, the Deosai Plains. It’s the trip we’d recommend to anyone visiting Baltistan for the first time. It works for families and for anyone who’d rather see the mountains change slowly than watch them from a plane window.

FAQs:

  • How far is Skardu from Islamabad by road?
  • Roughly 620–650 km via the Karakoram Highway. It takes two days with an overnight in Chilas, which is why a by-road tour needs at least five days.
  • Is the road to Skardu safe?
  • The Jaglot–Skardu road has been rebuilt and is much better than it was, but landslides happen, especially in spring and during monsoon rains. Experienced local drivers and a spare day make the difference.
  • Can we go via Naran?
  • Yes, from roughly June to October when Babusar Pass is open [PH_VERIFY]. It adds Naran and Lake Saiful Muluk options on the return.
  • Is this tour suitable for kids and older parents?
  • Yes. Most sightseeing is by vehicle with short walks. The long days are the two drives each way, and we plan breaks around them.
