Description
Skardu to Hunza Distance Contains two of the most stunning destinations in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, varying depending on the route taken. The direct route via the Deosai Plains is approximately 167 kilometers (104 miles) but is only accessible during the summer months due to the Deosai National Park’s altitude and weather conditions. Alternatively, traveling via the Karakoram Highway and Skardu Road covers a distance of about 335 kilometers (208 miles), a route that is generally accessible year-round, weather permitting.
Introduction
Nestled in the northern region of Pakistan, the Skardu to Hunza path unveils a world of contrasts — from the lush, terraced fields and grand fortresses in the Hunza valley to the barren moonscapes of Skardu. This route is a meandering maze of mountains and valleys, home to the friendliest people and some of the most majestic scenery in the world.

Geographical Insights
The trip from Skardu to Hunza uncovers a dramatic contrast in climate and landscape as you ascend from the Indus River in Skardu to the oasis that is the Hunza Valley, surrounded by seven peaks over 6,000 meters high. As you pass through the Khunjerab Pass, you also bridge the gulf between Pakistan and China.
Transportation Options
Traveling between Skardu and Hunza is generally most convenient via the Karakoram Highway. The highway is known as the ‘eighth wonder of the world’ for its breathtaking views and as an important trade link to China. However, it’s important to check the condition of the roads, as landslides and flooding can frequently affect them.
Attractions Along the Route
The Skardu to Hunza stretch is scattered with attractions that make the passage as enjoyable as the destinations. From high-altitude lakes to ancient forts, this is an adventure that promises more than just tired kilometers.
