Lahore to Skardu Flight Guide: Airlines, Schedules, Prices & What to Do After Landing

Commercial airplane flying from Lahore to Skardu above the Karakoram Mountains with snow-capped peaks and the Indus Valley below.
A Lahore to Skardu flight offers stunning aerial views of the Karakoram Mountains, making it one of Pakistan’s most scenic domestic air routes.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Airblue operate the only scheduled commercial flights between Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport (LHE) and Skardu Airport (KDU). One-way economy tickets start at approximately PKR 29,599, rising to PKR 54,000+ during the June–August peak. The flight covers approximately 436 km and takes around 1 hour 20–30 minutes in the air. Skardu Airport sits at 2,228 metres above sea level, and pilots require clear visual conditions to land — which is why flights operate almost exclusively in the morning and are sensitive to cloud cover, fog, and seasonal weather.

The LHE–KDU route passes over the western Karakoram and gives passengers a direct view of Nanga Parbat on clear mornings — one of the most visually striking domestic flight paths in Pakistan. Mountain weather governs almost everything about this route, from weekly frequency to whether your departure actually leaves the ground.

Which Airlines Fly from Lahore to Skardu?

PIA currently operates the only year-round scheduled service on the LHE–KDU route, running the PK451 service from Lahore to Skardu. Airblue operates seasonally on the same sector as the PA451. No other scheduled carrier serves this route. Private charter flights into Skardu are occasionally arranged by trekking groups but are not publicly bookable scheduled services.
The reason more airlines do not serve KDU comes down to three constraints: the airport operates under Visual Flight Rules only, the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan applies strict mountain airport requirements, and only Airbus A320-family aircraft are cleared for regular operations on this runway at altitude.

Passengers check departure information before boarding at the airport terminal, an essential step before flights such as the Lahore to Skardu route.

Airborne time is approximately 1 hour 20–30 minutes. Door-to-door from central Lahore to Skardu city takes closer to 4–5 hours: drive to LHE, 2-hour domestic check-in, boarding, flight, and 10–15 minute taxi from KDU to Skardu city.
By road, Lahore to Skardu via Islamabad and the Karakoram Highway covers roughly 1,250 km and takes 20–24 hours minimum. For any traveler with a 7-day or shorter trip window, the flight is the only practical option.
On the flight itself: take a window seat on the right side of the aircraft (A or B seats in A320 configuration). Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) and the Indus River valley on approach to KDU are visible from that side on clear mornings.

Weather, Cancellations & What to Do If Your Flight Is Cancelled

Lahore to Skardu flights may be delayed or cancelled due to poor weather, as Skardu Airport operates under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and requires clear visibility for landing. Cancellation risk is highest during winter (November–February) and lowest from May to August. If your flight is cancelled, PIA usually rebooks you on the next available flight, though peak-season delays can last 2–3 days. As a backup, you can travel by road via Islamabad and the Karakoram Highway (20–24 hours). Travel insurance that covers flight delays and cancellations is strongly recommended.
