Skardu Tour Packages (2026): Prices, Itineraries & Custom Trip

Scenic view of Shangrila Resort Skardu - Skardu Tour Packages 2026

Skardu tour packages in 2026 start from PKR 25,000 per person for a 3-day budget trip and go up to PKR 180,000+ for a 7-day luxury package with Serena Hotel accommodation and private Prado transport.

Every package covers Skardu’s core attractions — Shangrila Resort, Upper Kachura Lake, Shigar Fort, Deosai National Park, and Katpana Desert — with transport, accommodation, and a local guide included from day one.

Whether you are traveling to Shangrila Resort, Deosai National Park, Khaplu Valley, or Basho Valley, this page explains package options, hotel categories, transport, and the booking process. Why Choose a Skardu Tour Package?

Booking a Skardu tour package saves you from the three most common planning mistakes: underestimating road distances, misjudging hotel availability in peak season, and losing days to transport logistics that a local operator handles in hours.

Skardu sits at 2,228 meters in Gilgit-Baltistan, connected to Islamabad by a 700+ kilometer road via KKH or a 1.5-hour PIA flight that cancels frequently due to mountain weather. Planning around these variables from Islamabad or Karachi without local knowledge leads to wasted days and unnecessary cost.

Local planning helps you avoid unexpected road closures on the Skardu–Deosai Road, Jaglot–Skardu Road, and the Karakoram Highway during peak travel months.  A package operator based in Skardu knows which road to Deosai opened this week, which section of the Indus Valley road washed out last month, and which Shigar guesthouses actually have hot water in June. This is not information available on booking apps.

Time savings are significant on a short trip. A traveler managing their own jeep hire, hotel bookings, Deosai entry paperwork, and daily route planning loses 1 to 2 hours per day to logistics. On a 5-day trip, that is a full day of sightseeing lost.

Professional guides add practical value beyond navigation. A licensed Skardu guide knows the Baltistan cultural context — which villages welcome photography, where the road to Khaplu becomes impassable after rain, and which Deosai campsite has the least wind exposure. This knowledge directly affects your experience, not just your safety.

Safety on Skardu’s roads requires local experience. The Indus Valley road between Skardu and Khaplu has narrow ledge sections above the river. The Deosai plateau becomes genuinely dangerous in unexpected weather — temperatures can drop below zero in July. Drivers who know these roads daily make better real-time decisions than first-time visitors navigating from a phone.

Every package can be customized by adding destinations such as Blind Lake, Basho Valley, Khaplu Palace, Satpara Lake, or an overnight stay in Shigar Valley.  Add a Blind Lake day trip, extend to Basho Valley, swap a Shigar night for Khaplu — package operators in Skardu adjust itineraries within 24 hours. This flexibility is not available with pre-packaged online bookings from Lahore or Islamabad-based agencies with no on-ground presence.

Luxury Skardu Tour and Hotel Booking

Our luxury Skardu tour and hotel booking service includes Serena Hotel, Shangrila Resort, Luxus Grand Hotel, private Prado transport, airport pickup, and personalized itinerary planning.

Serena Hotel Skardu sits on a ridge above the Indus River with direct mountain views. Rooms start at approximately PKR 30,000 to PKR 50,000 per night depending on season and room category. The property has a full-service restaurant, conference facilities, and a travel desk for local excursion bookings. It is the most reliably staffed hotel in Skardu year-round.

Shangrila Resort at Upper Kachura Lake (35 km from Skardu city) offers lakeside rooms at an elevation of 2,500 meters. The resort’s location directly on the lake makes it the only Skardu property where the attraction is the hotel itself. Room rates run approximately PKR 20,000 to PKR 35,000 per night. Shangrila books out in July and August — advance reservation of 4 to 6 weeks is standard in peak season.

Luxus Grand Hotel Skardu is the newest full-service property in the city, with swimming pool, spa, and panoramic valley-facing rooms. Rates run PKR 25,000 to PKR 45,000 per night.

What luxury packages include beyond standard packages:

  • Private Prado or Land Cruiser with dedicated driver (not shared with other guests)
  • Airport pickup and drop with name board
  • VIP hotel check-in assistance
  • Dedicated English-speaking guide (not rotated between groups)
  • Breakfast and dinner at hotel restaurant
  • Complimentary bottled water daily per person
  • 24-hour WhatsApp support from local coordinator

Who luxury packages suit: Travelers who do not want to negotiate jeep fares at Skardu’s transport stand, couples who want Shangrila as a base rather than a day trip, and corporate groups requiring consistent service standards for company retreats or team trips.

Luxury 5-day packages start at PKR 120,000 per person based on double occupancy at Serena or Luxus. Shangrila-based packages run higher due to lake-view room premiums.

Custom Skardu Tour Packages for Families

Custom Skardu packages adjust departure timing, vehicle size, hotel room configuration, and daily pace to match your group’s specific requirements — whether you are traveling with children under 10, senior citizens, or a honeymoon couple wanting privacy over group activities.

Families with children need a Hiace van or large SUV rather than a standard 4×4, child-appropriate meal options at guesthouses, and itineraries that avoid the longest driving days. The Deosai crossing (10–12 hours round trip) is manageable for children above 8 years with rest stops planned — below that age, consider Shangrila and Shigar as alternatives for the same day slot.

Senior citizen travelers benefit from shorter daily driving distances (under 4 hours per day), ground-floor hotel rooms where possible, and itineraries that exclude high-altitude days above 4,000 meters for anyone with cardiac or respiratory conditions. Deosai at 4,142 meters is the most altitude-intensive day on any Skardu itinerary — discuss this with your physician before booking if relevant.

Honeymoon couples get the most value from a Shangrila lakeside room for 2 nights combined with a Shigar Fort heritage hotel stay — two of the only genuinely romantic accommodation options in Baltistan. Itineraries for couples prioritize sunset timing at Katpana Desert, morning light at Upper Kachura Lake, and avoid rushing attractions.

Photographers need itineraries built around golden hour at Katpana (dawn and dusk), Deosai wildlife spotting windows (6–8 AM at Sheosar Lake), and Shigar Fort interior access before tourist groups arrive (before 10 AM). A dedicated photography guide who knows these windows adds significant practical value.

Corporate and team groups of 8 to 20 people require Hiace vans, hotel conference room access in Skardu, and coordinated logistics across multiple vehicles. Serena Hotel Skardu is the only property with conference facilities — all other Skardu hotels are leisure-focused.

Solo travelers pay a single room supplement of approximately PKR 5,000 to PKR 10,000 per night above the double-occupancy base rate. Joining a group departure (available June and July) reduces this cost significantly.

Skardu tour package costs vary significantly by season and group size. A 5-day mid-range package typically costs PKR 76,500 per person based on double occupancy, excluding airfare. The single largest cost variable is hotel choice — upgrading from a local guesthouse (PKR 3,500/night) to Serena Hotel (PKR 30,000–50,000/night) can add PKR 100,000+ to a 5-day trip. All published figures are approximate; confirm current rates directly with your operator before paying a deposit.

What increases costs most: Choosing Serena or Shangrila over a local guesthouse adds PKR 20,000 to PKR 45,000 per night. Private Prado versus shared jeep adds PKR 6,000 to PKR 10,000 per day. Solo travel versus double occupancy adds PKR 5,000 to PKR 10,000 per night.

By Air vs By Road — Which Package Should You Choose?

Flying to Skardu takes 1 hour 20 minutes from Islamabad; driving the same route takes 18 to 22 hours via KKH through Chilas and the Indus Valley. The Islamabad to Skardu Distance and the right choice depend on your time budget, cost tolerance, and risk appetite — not preference alone.

By Air — What to Know

Skardu Airport (SKZ) operates Visual Flight Rules only — flights require clear weather at both Islamabad and Skardu simultaneously. In July and August, morning cloud cover over Skardu cancels 40 to 60 percent of scheduled flights. PIA is the only scheduled carrier on this route.

Practical advice for air travelers: Book the earliest morning departure (typically 6–7 AM). Morning flights have the highest completion rate. If your flight cancels, you may wait 2 to 4 days for the next available seat in peak season. Always have a road backup plan or 2 buffer days in your itinerary.

By Road — What to Know

The Islamabad to Skardu road via KKH runs approximately 700 kilometers through Abbottabad, Besham, Chilas, and the Indus Valley. One overnight stop (Chilas or Besham) is strongly recommended over a single 20-hour drive. The road is paved throughout but has active landslide sections between Chilas and Skardu in July and August.

Practical advice for road travelers: Depart Islamabad before 6 AM to reach Chilas before dark. The Chilas–Skardu section (approximately 130 km) takes 4 to 5 hours and should be driven only in daylight.

Package recommendation: If your trip is 5 days or shorter, fly and build 1 buffer day for cancellation. If your trip is 7 days or longer, drive one way and fly the other — combining the scenic KKH road experience with the time-saving return flight.

Best Time to Book a Skardu Tour

June and July are the best months to visit Skardu — roads are fully open, Deosai is accessible, and Shangrila’s lake is at its clearest. However, booking for these months requires advance reservation of 4 to 6 weeks due to high demand at Serena, Shangrila, and Luxus hotels.

Attractions Covered

Skardu tour packages cover eleven major attractions across Baltistan — from the lakeside grounds of Shangrila Resort to the 4,142-meter Sheosar Lake plateau in Deosai National Park.

Shangrila Resort & Upper Kachura Lake Upper Kachura Lake sits at 2,500 meters, 35 kilometers from Skardu city. The lake’s turquoise water comes from glacial melt rather than river flow, keeping it clear even in summer. Shangrila Resort sits directly on the lakeshore — the property’s garden and viewing deck are open to day visitors who are not staying overnight. Morning light between 7 and 9 AM is the best photography window before tourist boats arrive.

Lower Kachura Lake Lower Kachura Lake lies 3 kilometers below Upper Kachura, more accessible by road and quieter than Shangrila on weekdays. Local fishing boats operate here — a 30-minute hire runs approximately PKR 500–800 per boat.

Shigar Valley & Shigar Fort (Fong Khar) Shigar Fort sits 30 kilometers from Skardu on the Shigar River road. The fort is a 400-year-old Baltistan palace restored by the Aga Khan Cultural Service and now operating as a heritage hotel. Day visitors pay an entry fee of approximately PKR 200–500. The fort’s interior — carved wood ceilings, Balti courtyard design — is distinct from any other property in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Khaplu Valley & Khaplu Fort Khaplu is 103 kilometers from Skardu via the Indus Valley road, a 3-hour drive east. Khaplu Fort (Khaplu Palace) is a restored Yabgo dynasty property now operating as a heritage hotel. The Khaplu bazaar, smaller and less touristy than Skardu’s, gives access to Balti handicrafts and local apricot products at lower prices than Skardu city shops.

Sarfaranga Cold Desert Sarfaranga Desert sits near Khaplu at approximately 2,900 meters — a high-altitude sand desert surrounded by Karakoram peaks. Less visited than Katpana, it offers similar landscape without Katpana’s weekend crowds.

Deosai National Park & Sheosar Lake Deosai National Park covers 3,000 square kilometers of plateau between 3,500 and 4,500 meters. Entry is via Bara Pani checkpoint (2.5 hours from Skardu). Sheosar Lake at 4,142 meters is the park’s centerpiece — a 2.3-kilometer glacial lake with Nanga Parbat visible on clear days. Himalayan brown bears are spotted most reliably at 6–8 AM near the lake’s north shore. Entry fee is PKR 300 per person.

Katpana Cold Desert Katpana Desert lies 15 kilometers from Skardu city at 2,226 meters — one of the world’s highest cold deserts. Sand dunes against a mountain backdrop make it the most photographed landscape near Skardu. Best visited at dawn or dusk when the light is low and the dunes cast shadows.

Basho Valley Basho Valley sits 45 kilometers from Skardu — a pine-forested side valley off the main Skardu–Gilgit road. It is a half-day detour rather than a full day destination, typically added to the Shigar or return-from-Gilgit day.

Manthoka Waterfall Manthoka Waterfall sits in the Shyok Valley near Khaplu, approximately 40 kilometers from Khaplu town on a rough track requiring a 4×4. The waterfall drops approximately 150 meters and is most powerful in June and July when glacial melt peaks. Access requires a full day from Khaplu — it cannot be combined with Khaplu Fort and Sarfaranga in a single day without rushing.

Blind Lake Blind Lake (Kala Pani) sits above Skardu city at approximately 3,400 meters, reached by a 2–3 hour trek from the upper Skardu road. It is not included in standard packages but can be added as an optional half-day trek for fit travelers on a rest day in Skardu.

Satpara Lake Satpara Lake lies 10 kilometers south of Skardu city at 2,636 meters. It serves as Skardu’s main water reservoir and is the easiest alpine lake to visit on a short trip. Best combined with the Katpana Desert as a half-day circuit from Skardu city.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of a Skardu tour package in 2026? Skardu tour packages in 2026 start at approximately PKR 25,000 per person for a 3-day budget trip and reach PKR 180,000+ per person for a 7-day luxury package with Serena Hotel or Shangrila Resort accommodation. Prices vary based on group size, hotel category, transport type, and season. July and August packages cost 20 to 40 percent more than the same package in May or September due to peak-season hotel rate increases.

How many days are enough for Skardu? Five days is the minimum comfortable duration for seeing Skardu’s core attractions — Shangrila, Shigar Fort, Deosai, Kachura Lakes, and Katpana Desert. Three days works only if you fly in and focus on the nearest sites. Seven days is ideal for travelers who want to add Khaplu, Basho Valley, and Manthoka Waterfall without rushing any destination.

Is Skardu safe for tourists in 2026? Skardu is safe for domestic and foreign tourists during the June to September season. Standard precautions apply: avoid driving after dark on mountain roads, carry original ID documents for police checkpoints, and check Deosai road status before the Bara Pani crossing. Foreign nationals should carry their passport at all times and may need to register with local police — confirm current requirements with your guide on arrival.

What is included in a Skardu tour package? Standard packages include hotel accommodation, daily breakfast, private or shared transport with driver, a local guide, and airport pickup and drop. Lunch, dinner, entry tickets, airfare, travel insurance, and personal expenses are typically excluded. Always confirm the inclusions and exclusions list in writing before paying a deposit.

Is it better to fly or drive to Skardu? Flying saves 16 to 20 hours of travel time but carries a 40 to 60 percent cancellation risk in peak season due to mountain weather. Driving via KKH takes 18 to 22 hours from Islamabad but is significantly more reliable. For trips of 5 days or fewer, fly but build in 1 buffer day. For 7-day trips, consider flying one way and driving the other to experience the KKH scenery without losing return-trip days to a potential cancellation.

When should I book a Skardu tour package? Book 4 to 6 weeks in advance for July and August travel. Hotels at Serena, Shangrila, and Luxus fill quickly and do not hold rooms without deposit. For May, June, September, and October travel, 2 to 3 weeks advance booking is usually sufficient. Cherry blossom season (late March to mid-April) also books up 3 to 4 weeks ahead as demand has increased sharply since 2023.

Do I need a permit to visit Skardu or Deosai? Pakistani nationals do not need a permit to visit Skardu city, Shigar, Khaplu, or most standard tourist sites. Deosai National Park charges a per-person entry fee of approximately PKR 300, payable at the Bara Pani checkpoint. Foreign nationals may need to register at local police offices in Skardu — confirm current requirements before travel as rules can change seasonally.

What is the best hotel in Skardu for families? Serena Hotel Skardu is the most consistent choice for families who need reliable service, hot water, a restaurant, and space. Mashabrum Hotel and Concordia Motel are solid mid-range alternatives with family room configurations. Shangrila Resort works well for families with older children who want the lakeside experience, but its 35-kilometer distance from Skardu city adds transfer time to each day’s activities.

Can I customize my Skardu tour package? Yes. Every package listed is a starting point, not a fixed product. You can add Blind Lake trekking, extend to Manthoka Waterfall, replace a Shigar day with a Basho Valley drive, or adjust the hotel category mid-itinerary. Customization requests are handled within 24 hours of inquiry, and revised quotes are provided before any deposit is required.

What should I pack for a Skardu tour in summer? Pack thermal base layers even for July — Deosai temperatures drop below 5°C overnight and can reach 0°C in unexpected weather. Bring SPF 50+ sunscreen (UV intensity is high above 2,500 m), waterproof hiking boots for Deosai and any trekking days, a power bank (electricity is unreliable at guesthouses outside Skardu city), and sufficient PKR cash (no ATMs beyond Skardu city). Download offline maps before leaving Skardu city — mobile data disappears at Deosai and on the Khaplu road.

By Air vs By Road — Which Package Should You Choose?

Flying to Skardu takes 1 hour 20 minutes from Islamabad; driving the same route takes 18 to 22 hours via KKH through Chilas and the Indus Valley. The right choice depends on your time budget, cost tolerance, and risk appetite — not preference alone.
